"Mother Goose" is a collective name for rhymes and tales from many sources, some traditional, and some written by famous authors. The term "Mother Goose" appeared as a subtitle on Perrault's collection of fairy tales (1697), and was used as a title by John Newbery for a collection of mostly traditional rhymes (1765).
