Hillsborough County is in central Florida on the Gulf coast. It was established in 1834 from St. Johns County and named for Wills Hills, the Earl of Hillsborough.
The county is bordered by Tampa Bay and Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, and Manatee counties. It contains three incorporated areas - Tampa, Temple Terrace, and Plant City - and numerous communities.
