Harmonix Music Systems is an independent video game development company. Specialized in the development of games where music is a fundamental part of the core mechanics, the company has become popular mostly thanks to a series of critically acclaimed PlayStation 2 and Xbox titles. Among the most successful releases, Frequency, Amplitude, Guitar Hero, and the Karaoke Revolution series. MTV acquired the company in 2006.
